Supressing particular alerts in ECC 5.2 SP 4

In our environment we have a few RF directors that are unused that we have offlined for the meantime. The Symmetrix agent is reporting each director as offline, and if I clear the alert the alerts reappear. Is it possible to suppress the particular RF ports from being monitored by the Symmetrix agent so I can clear the alert and not have them reappear?

Choice 1 - Under conditions - uncheck the OFFLINE warning message and keep the DEAD. All you really need is condition dead anyways. That is what I did when I had the same thing happening.

Choice 2 - Under source, and Directors, list only the directors you want to be monitored. If you have more than 1 symm then you will need to create two alert policies and have all other symms in one without any changes and the other alert policy with this symm and the special conditions.

I have asked this question of EMC in the past and was told to just Acknowledge the alert and leave it alone. This will indicate in the GUI that it isn't something that has to be addressed, but it will prevent the alert regenerating (except if the Symm Agent gets restarted).

If anyone has a better answer I would LOVE to hear it too :-)

This is exactly as how I should do it. Go to the alerts and be a little more specific in what you're monitoring, just to prevent you're getting msg's from directors you're not even using. Don't forget to check them again as soon as you want them to be monitored again !

Thanks not, I used choice 1 as you're right, we only care if a director becomes dead

Now I'm ticked off at my support folks at EMC. Here I was ignoring messages that I didn't have to see after all.

The more I learn about ECC the more I realize that EMC doesn't always train their front line people as well as some of their customers.

THANK GOD for the Forums :-)
