patch management

I'm currently running ECC 6.0, I may go to 6.1 in the near future. So far I've used ECC for several years but I've never got into a regular patch management schedule nor do I know how I would do such a thing. In the server world (Redhat, Solaris, Windows) we have this faily well automated and on a regular schdule. I'm not even sure how to tell what patches I currently have. Any thoughts ?

Hi Bruce,

There is no automated patching mechanism in ControlCenter. Your best bet is to periodically check the Downloads section in Powerlink and then download/install the patches which are applicable for your environment (not all patches are necessarily relevant because there may be ones for components that you do not have licensed or installed).

The ecchf_contents.log in the :\\ folder lists the installed CC patches in your environment.

ECC 6.0 requires a minimum version of Solutions Enabler using today's targeted release for 5772 microcode on a DMX4. What are the minimum OS release for Solaris and Windows to support the minimum version of SE and where do I find EMC's recommended patch levels for these different OS (s).?

Hi yotta,

Solaris 8, 9 and 10 are supported; on the Windows side - 32-bit Win 2000, Win Svr 2003; 64-bit Win Svr 2003, Win Svr 2003 x64.

In terms of exact OS patch levels, your best bet is to check the latest EMC Support Matrix (ESM).

Note that the 64-bit version of Solutions Enabler is not supported by ControlCenter. The remote distribution of Solutions Enabler
(Solutions Enabler MRLK) from the ControlCenter Console will deploy the required 32-bit version of Solutions Enabler.

Hi yotta,

The min SE version for CC 6.0 is 6.4.x.x.

Off the top of my head, Symm/SDM and Clariion agents are the only ones which need SE as a pre-req before installing the agent in question.

Do all of ECC agents require a push of SE during a ECC6.0 upgrade or are there some that don't need the minimum version at all and don't use symcli at all.

Which doc best breaks it all down for the person upgrading?

I know Sym/SDM need it but does the Int Gtwy,FLR archiver,or WLA agent platforms all need to have the SE pushed prior to upgrading the agents themselves too?

Is the version minimum for CC6.0 still 6.4.2 SE?

Thanks
