Legato backups of ECC files

I was just informed that Legato backups of our ECC infrastructure server are not completing successfully because the backup encounters open files. All of the files that Legato finds open are in one of the three following directories.

E:\Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\ldb\storapid_db\
E:\Program Files\EMC\SYMAPI\ldb\storevntd\
E:\Program Files\EMC\SMC\litewave\webapps\sem\WEB-INF\data\

The three choices I have are 1) exclude the files from the Legato backup; 2) purchase an Open File Manager module for Legato; or 3) stop ECC while the backup runs.

Of course I'm not going to stop ECC nor am I inclined to purchase an Open File Manager module. This leads me to the question, do I need the files in these directories if I ever have a need to restore the ECC infrastructure server, or if the server hard drive were to crash would I just reload ECC and then restore the repository?

Thanks.

The most important item that needs to be backed up is the repository (Oracle database). See administration guide starting on page 96: http://powerlink.emc.com/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/Technical_Documentation/300-004-030_a01_elccnt_0.pdf

The first two, under SYMAPI, are part of Solutions Enabler. ControlCenter Storage Agent for Symmetrix is likely using Solutions Enabler to communicate with Symmetrices. They are not a part of ControlCenter, the open files are most likely [edited: locks], you don't need them to restore ControlCenter and you can always reinstall Solutions Enabler and rebuild its symapi database.

I am not sure about the third one. Do you have SMC installed in addition to ControlCenter? I did not think it comes with ControlCenter, but I may be wrong.

We do have SMC installed. Why? I do not know. For some reason SMC was included in the project scope and the project manager was not inclined to exclude the installation of SMC without a scope change so I told him that we'll just install SMC and never use it. Assuming the third directory is related to SMC then I guess I don't need any of the files not being backed up by Legato.
