ECC 6.1 FC link on a topology map

I'm using ECC 6.1 On a topology map when a FC port on a switch goes down the link between this switch port and a hba vanishes rather than changes its status and appearance and does not reappear when the switch port goes up.

Is it possible to force the link to reappear on the map after the switch port goes up?

You should check the settings for your FCC agent DCPs. Once the link is back up it should reappear on the topology map after the next time the switch/fabric is discovered by the DCP. If there is no rediscover (or a long delay) this could be causing your issue. I'm pretty sure this is picked up by the Device validation DCP. In my environment I have it running once every hour. If a port dropped right before it ran and came back up right after it ran it could take almost an hour to update the topology map.

On another note, I've been campaigning for a while to have the data on HBA to switch port links made more "resilient". So in this situation you would see that there was a link that was down... and more importantly, when you get an alert for that switch port you could easily tell what was affected.

Allen,

Could you please elaborate further about this

I'm very interested in making these failed links marked somehow on the map rather then vanished from the map completely until next time rediscover.

I also participate in the Ionix Storage Management Online Community (formerly the ControlCenter Online Community) which is also hosted here on ECN. It is less focused on incident resolution and more on interaction between customers and the SRM team working on updates and new version of these products. In more than one thread over there I have expressed my frustration with the way this works today and suggestions for improvement for the future.

I strongly urge any other users here who haven't already joined the Ionix SRM Community to come join in the discussions now. It has been quiet for a while but they are in the process of revitalizing it right now. It's an excellent time to get involved.

You can get there by navigating to the main ECN page (you can use the bread-crumbs right below your name at the top of this page). From the main ECN page select Connect, then ControlCenter Online (from the list at the left of the page). This will land you on the home page. From there you click on the link to register (you can ignore the step of registering with ECN since you already are) and they will set you up with access to get into the "secured" section. Don't forget to mention when you register that I sent you :-)
