Discoving ESX servers in ECC

Question

What permissions does the user account on the ESX server need for it to be discovered? I have tried with root just to test the agents connectivity (which was successful) but then created a service account and was unsuccessful. Thanks for the help!

Yes,This cumulative Patch 4203 for Vmware agent allow non Admin user to discover ESX servers. It takes the Vmware agent version level up to (v6.0.0.0.343).For more information you can also check emc165970 & emc183546 knowledge base articles.Nimai

As long as you have patch 4203 applied you should be able to work with a read only account.
