Device Groups ??

Hi Every One

I was having Old CC 5.2 server that manage DMX800 , I make now a new Server ECC server 6.0 and The Old Server is gone now I could not get back to it

I succefully connect to The DMX800 , but The Proplem is That there was two Device groups on the old DMX800 ant it contained the STD and BCV Devices anf there was Windows scheduled for Establish and syncronization

now it is disappeard on the DMX800 ? I am new to ECC 6.0 but how we can either get the configuration and if it is saved on The DMX 800 so we can extract it , is that right.??? if not can I creat these configuration again ?? and can you give me hints to create it ??

regards

Hi,

Device groups are created at the host level so you will not see them under the new 6.0 host. You will need to have exported the device group from the old server to a .txt file in order to re-import it back in under the new host in CC 6.0.

Assuming your old ECC 5.2 server is where the DG files were located you are out of luck recreating them. Your best bet would be to use ECC to identify the STD/BCV relationships (best bet is to use the "Timefinder" view under Data Protection)

Once you find this you can use ECC to recreate the DG files - you will need to figure-out which devices go with each group which you can hopefully do based on the hosts that own the standard devices.

If you would like to have your Timefinder information stored on the Symmetrix look into using the GNS daemon included with timefinder. This feature has gotten fairly stable and can avoid situations like this where DG files get lost with a host.

Another alternative if the mapping is too large or too complex is that you could recover the symapi_db.bin file from the host from a backup and set the SYMCLI_DB_FILE flag to referene this file so you could do an export of the device group using the symdg command.

I'd recommend the first option (using ECC) if for no other reason than familiarizing yourself with the tool a little bit more.

FOr The chance I have symdg.txt export but it was from long time and , I am afraid that there was Update to it , what is best way to guess if there was Update to STD and corresponding BCV

thanks in advance

Mohammad,

It might be best to open a SR if you need some detailed investigation into this issue.

Hi,

I recommend looking at the Solutions Enabler Symmetrix CLI Command Reference doc on Powerlink. It should have all the commands you require.
