(redirected) OPU TEST - Failed Spindle Test - Failed = Dell/Alienware Failed

Received my X51 last night, unpacked and started up but the DVD/CD drive was dead. 

No problem, go online run diagnostic tests, and get the following message:

DVD-RW Drive HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA50N OPU Test - Failed

DVD-RW Drive HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA50N Spindle Test - Failed

All other systems good. 

Call tech support, they walk me through the boot up F12 tests, same result, DVD drive dead.

So their apparent solution is to send a tech to replace the DVD drive in a one hour old computer with refurbished parts.  The DVD drive never worked.

This is an unacceptable solution to what I would think is a relatively simple problem. 

Dell dropped the ball on this and will be getting the computer back if a more equitable solution is not forthcoming.
