Problem installing a second hard drive on a Dell Dimension 9200

Recently purchased a Western Digital hard drive to have a backup  OS, as I try to upgrade from from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7, and want a backup if something goes wrong.

The service manual states that drive it should  installed on SATA1, however SATA1 is occupied by the wire from the DVD/CD-ROM drive.  

 Tried Chat, but no response!after two hours!

Any help would be appreciated.

Ron,

You can conect the adititional SATA hard drive to any open SATA port on the motherboard. 

After the drive is installed, enter the system setup [BIOS] and check that the SATA port drive is set "Auto" [on] and the drive is recognized.

For windows to recognize it, you will need to partition, format the drive and assign it a drive letter using Disk Management.
