Install Windows 8 on SSD drive?

Purchased a refurbished Precision T7910 with two 4TB HDDs and a 512 GB SSD. For some reason, the machine was configured with the OS on one of the HDDs. I want to install my OS and applications on the SSD, but the Windows 8.1 installer CD won't let me do it. It says I need an EFI something or other instead of the MBR something or other that was detected.

So, what is needed to do a clean install of the Windows 8.1 OS on my SSD?

ONLY if you are installing Windows 8.1 64-bit:

Remove the HDD's. Boot to F2 Setup and check the boot mode - is it UEFI or Legacy? When you installed, were there any existing partitions? If so, delete them.

It would also be helpful to know the EXACT message(s) you get.

Needed help from Dell tech support. Long story short, had to first delete the partition on the SSD, which allowed installation of the OS on the SSD. Next, it took restoring BIOS defaults then a few more adjustments before any of the drives showed up in the boot sequence list. After unchecking all but the CD/DVD drive and the SSD, I now have the machine I wanted all along!

Thanks!
