Install an SSD into an Inspiron 3650 I7 6700 16gb Ram and 2TB hard drive Amd R9 380 graphics Running Win 7 Pro 64 bit

Hi:

I have the above referenced PC and would like to add an SSD(Boot Drive with OS).  I would like to make this ssd my c: drive.  I want to keep Win 7 operating system.  I made recovery disks the mament I opened the PC.  I don't want Win 10.

Could someone with their infinite knowledge instruct me on the entire procedure with pictures if possible?  What parts do I need if any?

Thanks in advance

Tom

I was thinking of getting a 512gb SSD.  The system came with Win 10 Pro 64 bit installation disks, but I'm used to and prefer using Win 7.  The cloning idea sounds interesting.  In fact that sounds like the ticket.  What cloning software is recommended.  Do you change the boot priority in the Bios setup after the cloning?  I'm concern with what type of SSD should I purchase(interface, tranfer rate, etc), what cables, if any, and what adapters would be needed?

At work, I run all of my computers with SSD's (OS/Start-up) and they run like rockets.  This new computer runs great, but with an SSD for start-up, program files, scratch disks, I be in hyper drive.  I'd be in Nirvanna for a bargain basement price.

Again, thanks so much for you fast reply.  I've got several Dell optiplex desktops and haven't had a problem.

Thanks Again Osprey

Hi Tom,

The recovery discs you created used a utility called Dell Datasafe Local. Here are instructions on how to use your recovery discs. However, it will only restore the factory hard drive image if your new drive is equal in size to your old drive.

If that is not the case, the next option is to clone your existing system drive to the SSD. There are many free utilities for performing this task. Just perform a search for disk cloning.
