ell Demension 2400 -error: No Hard Drive found - 0
I have one of the Old Dell Demension 2400 -bought new in Oct' 2003,
Last week got this error on boot up: " No Hard Drive found - 0 press F2 for set
up f1 to continue." but it never boots. and there are Two quick beeps after pressing Pwr.
this is on a WIN XP SP 3
What I did so far:
In the error, As one of the options was to Press F2, I did that, and to load or to open BIOS setup. I did that
I Look'ed for the HDD in the SATA 0 , 1, 2, etc..
Next I Open'ed that for the HDD option and see if the boot hard drive is listed correctly. but there were not options to pick from, ( I would expect it to says "Western Digital 250 GB" or something.
At one point I noticed that there were CD's in the Tray's, however, I removed thoese and tryed aagin, and same error/message.
I put in a new Hard drive about a Year ago, and still have the old HDD
still around somewhere.
what should I do?
Thanks,

The Dimension 2400 only natively supports IDE/EIDE drives, not SATA, unless you installed a SATA controller card.
Is the IDE hard drive recognized in the system Setup [BIOS]?
Is the power button LED, solid green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber, or off?
Check the sequence of the four Diagnostic Lights [labeled A,B,C,D] on the back panel, these are located next to the two [mouse and keyboard] PS/2 ports.
The Dimension 2400 Owners Manual, Troubleshooter and Diagnostic Guide, is here:

Hello ShesaGordy, When I opened BIOS setup. I I Look'ed for the HDD listed in there..
but seemd to recall it not being listed in that window, in fact, there was nothing listed there. However, Im not at the computer right now. :emotion-44:
Also, I 'm sure that I mis-typed " SATA drive", I 'm sure I installed a PATA drive, about a year ago, and was able to re-install the O/S, and use the computer several times after that point., and even installed MS Office 2003, and other programs. This error " HArd Drive not found" was only recently a problem.
I 'll check the BIOS Settings again, the LED light on the switch, and the 4 Diag lights when at Home, where the PC is located.

Hello,
Good news, I worked on the computer last night. and checked the items you mentioned in your last message.
- I got the same error , and went in to BIOS' and was able to set it to the PRI Drive as the start up Drive.
- after re-boot I got a error: " Keyboard not detected, so I shut down, removed all the connetions on back of the computer, and blew off the dust.
