DVD drive not reading install DVDs, burnt CDs work

So I have what I believe is a hardware problem with my DVD drive. As said in the title, it wont read install disks but burnt CDs are good.

-I tried restarting the computer, didnt solve it

-I reinstalled the DVD drivers, didnt solve it

-Booted the DVD from the BIOS, didnt solve it

I have a M17x r3 laptop, Win 7 64, the DVD is HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA30N

Hi Pascalywood,

Please test your drive using the Dell diagnostics. I describe the procedure in my troubleshooting guide linked to below. BE SURE to put a DVD disc in the drive during the read test.

The diagnostic is not for fixing the drive. It's for diagnosing problems. Please re-run the diagnostics as I described and perform the READ TEST with a data DVD in the drive. If the drive can read the DVD disc, then it's good. If it cannot read the DVD disc, then the drive is bad and must be replaced.

I ejected and reinserted my data DVD about 6-7 times, after that it finally recognized the DVD. I just tried 2 other game DVDs and they were recognized immediatly. Hopefully it will keep working, I'll let you guys know if something is wrong again

Sounds like a flaky drive. In all honesty, I would just replace it.
