dvd drive failed to work

first of all,the indicator yellow light in my dvd drive doesn't glow.

when i insert dvd/cd it fails to read and it doesn't eject by pressing button, every time i need to use paperclip to eject the drive.

earlier when i insert any dvd/cd i hear that disc rotating sound, but now i don't hear that too.

There's no way you can test a drive without having a blank writeable disc in the drive, and without having the disc spin up in the drive, which is what you've described.

If the system won't spin up a disc, the drive needs to be replaced.

Hi ABIEZHIL,

Thank you for the update.

I agree with ejn63, the ODD needs to be replaced.

You could order the part from the link provided.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

The drive has failed - if your system is under warranty, call Dell for a warranty replacement.

If the system is out of warranty, please provide the system model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc -- NOT just 15R) -- and someone can recommend a replacement drive.

Hi ABIEZHIL,

What is the exact system model?

http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the service manual and try reseating the ODD.

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.

If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Let us know if you have any other queries.

Exact replacement:

www.parts-people.com/index.php

However, just about any slimline SATA notebook DVD writer will work to replace the faulty one.

Thanks for taking your time,

I ran the diagnostics test and it prompted "NO PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FOUND WITH THIS SYSTEM."

The model is Inspiron 5521 and warranty is expired.
