disk drive will not open
yesterday my disk drive on Inspiron 620 would not open. Got it open using paper clip to take out disk. Once I got disk out it would not open again. When I turn on computer disk drive makes sort of grinding noise but stops after about 20 seconds. Any suggestions?

You need to replace the DVD/CD/RW drive, it's failed.
SATA DVD drives are cheap, can purchased for $20.

Happy to have helped.
Good choice, external DVD/CD/RW drives are handy to have and use. I have one for my Laptop, as the newer the Lappies don't have internal DVD drives anymore.

Can you right-click the drive icon and select Eject?

tried that but it just makes whining noises for about 30 seconds+ and nothing happens.

Thank you. I felt that was the answer. I decided to buy an external dvd drive since all I use the dvd drive for is to play my exercise tapes. I would have no idea how to replace it and don't want to pay someone to do it.
