Dell DM061 Upgrades?

Hi,

I'm a Dell community newbie. I have an old Dell DM061 (Intel Core 2 4400 @ 2.00 GHz) with 2 GB of RAM. I am wondering:

  • what is the maximum RAM that this machine will accept? (2 x ?)
  • many drives are possible to install? What are the physical limits? I want to repurpose it as a home server.

I understand that some of this information is available on spec sheets. But I have seen on these forums that what is actually possible sometimes surprises.

Seeking wisdom from the Dell community.

Thanks,

The DM061 [Dimension E520] supports a maximum of 8GB DDR2 memory [4 x 2GB modules], but to use 8GB you need a 64-bit operating system.

Maximum drives supported by the motherboard, are 4 x SATA drives, usually 2 x 3.5" hard drives [max 2tb each] and 2 x 5.25" optical drives.
