CD/DVD drive
I am running windows 8.1 on my inspiron 1520. For some reason the CD/DVD drive is not showing ip on my "Device" file, nor does it work. I am thinking that the driver is not, or does not exist. How can I get the driver downloaded? Help - - -

I must not have been holding my mouth right - I tried you suggestion (@microsoft) and I now have my DVD-CD working.
Thanks!

Hi Pappy57Jack,
This is most likely a registry issue. Please follow the instructions HERE to fix this registry issue. Let me know if it works.

HI - I went to the 'tiles' page, clicked on the 'search (magnifying glass) and entered 'cmd'. A page opened (black background w/white characters) "c\windows\system32-" was displayed. I cut & pasted the command that was in the article. After a second, or two, it said something like "changes have been made". when I restarted the computer the cd/dvd drive did not work, nor does it show up on the "Device and Drives" section of the "Files page".
This has me scratching my head. I have been a DELL man for years and had extended coverage for years, until last summer. I updated to 8.1 during that time and thought that the support team would have made sure that all drivers were in place.
Any other thoughts you have will be greatly appreciated, or if I did something wrong - let me know. Thanks, Osprey (I see your namesake every time I go down to the Okefenokee Swamp).
Thanks again -

More info about the DVD/CD Drive:
I had to replace it last year. On the 'System List' it is described as: TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA Device.
The message I get when I enter cmd into the 'search line' is: C:\Windows\system32> This is where I tried typing in the line of code that was in the Windows post.
Again - any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks again -
