4 TB disk added to dell precision t7400 but only detects 2 TB

Hello everybody,

We got a Dell Precision T7400 running windows 7 professional SP1 and we added a new hard drive (4TB) but it only detects 2 TB of the disk (already set the disk to GPT).

I read in another post that I got to update SATA drivers?

Is that correct?

Where are those SATA drivers?

Thanks.

Best regards.

Is the disk connected to the motherboard or are they connected to a controller card? The controllers for the T7400 (SAS 6/iR, PERC 6/i) do not support disks larger than 2TB. If it is connected to the motherboard, you need to update the Intel RST drivers:

I'm not sure if you can or not ... the T7400 uses mostly server hardware, and on some servers that use the same hardware you can - and some you cannot - use hard drives on the onboard SATA ports when the RAID controller is in use (optical drives only). Just depends on the system resources and design - I can't see anywhere where it says one way or the other. You have the drive ... there is no harm in trying it.

Thanks a lot for your rapid response.

Just another question: Can I connect HDD's to the motherboard instead of connecting them to the controller?

How can this be done?

Thanks.
