Running a newer Client Search Plugin version than the server
Hello
One of our customers asks whether if it possible to only upgrade the EmailXtender Outlook Client Search Plugin to the newer version, while the EmailXtender server remains on version 4.70.565.
Is this possible, is it supported, and does it actually makes any sense?

no, the Outlook Search Plugin has to be the same version or older; but should not be "younger". - In the ExIntallGuide (EMC EmailXtender, Version 4.8 SP1 Installation Guide) it says on 4-4:
------------------
You should update the EmailXtender server before you update
other EmailXtender components, such as the Search Plug-in. You
should not use the newest release of the Search Plug-in with an
earlier release of the EmailXtender server. You can, however, run
an earlier release (Release 4.6 or later) of the Search Plug-in with
the newest release of the EmailXtender server.
------------------
Since there is new functionality programmed into each SearchClient, this makes sense. E.g. the new delegate function in the search is new and wouldn't work with older servers. - If it might actually break something, I cannot say.
I hope this might help.
Regards,
Jochen.
