Exporting to PSt

Hi All,

We are starting the migration process\investigation from EX to ???. One of the options I've been task to review is the ability to export to pst. using the Outlook lug-in I can export email from any mailbox not a problem. I have noticed that when I do this the folder structure doesn't follow. Instead everything ends up in the "inbox". Just wondering if this is because we are using the journaling feature, instead of directed folders.

If it is not possible to export the folder list, is there a way to restore stubbed email on mass back into exchange? (Still reading the help file). Thanks in advance.

Cheers

John -

You can export to PST, but EX does not hold the file structure.  That is how it was built.

Your next point, about restoring shortcut email, you can absolutely do this via EmailXtract.  Use the Shortcut tab, but select where it says to restore to the mail server.  Just be careful when you do this as this may cause your Exchange server's disk drive to fill to capacity quickly.  Another thing is that if you do restore the emails, and then archive all the Exchange mail into SourceOne, you may run the risk of not archiving all email.  Here is such a scenario:

     1. Journaling/Archiving email from Exchange into EX

     2. Shortcut email (all email that are 90 days or older)

     3. Users delete shortcut email from Outlook/Exchange

     4. Restore email from EX to Exchange

     5. Archive email into SourceOne

In the above scenario, you would actually have messages missing from the SourceOne archive if a user deleted the email prior to restoring.

Have you thought about running EX and SourceOne in Co-Existence mode?

Hey  kauanoee,

Thanks for the quick reply.

If we did the extract to mailbox we'd lock the users out of their mailbox. Once the extract was finished we'd then archive into the selected replacment. So lots of weekend work. Yeah!

Right now we have yet to decide on what product we are going to. Right now SourceOne is not a fron runner, mgnt have some reservations about going to version 1 of any software product.

Cheers

FYI, SourceOne is not a 1.0 version of a product.

It went through extensive testing and revision before it was even released.

It has been publicly released in the field now since July of 2009 and I have been involved with over 30 implementations since then.

In my opinion is the best content management product out there and I have worked on most of them.

It is also the foundation for the rest of the SourceOne product suite, Discovery Manager, SharePoint, Email Supervisor, Files Systems and more to come.
