Upgrade process from 1.04 to 2.x
We are currently running 1.04 and i am trying to schedule an upgrade to 2.x. We will be upgrading in-place on existing Windows 2003 SP2 servers, these servers CPU support SS2 feature. My questions are:
1) How long does it take to upgrade 4 gateway machines and one policy manager
2) Can some gateway machines be running Windows 2008 and others Windows 2003
3) What else do i need to think about ?
ps: i did read "esrs pre-install guide"
Thank you

I would recommend disabling the Policy Manager on each Gateway, installing the new Policy Manager, migrating the Gateways and pointing each Gateway to the new Policy Manager after they are migrated.

Thanks David, two more follow up questions:
1) once my servers are upgraded to ESRS 2.x, can i upgrade OS from Win2k3 to Win2k8 R2 ?
2) My current ESRS gateways and policy manager are running Win2k3 and i would like to move to Win2k8 R2. One option is to upgrade (question 1 ) but i would rather migrate to brand new VMs running Win2k8 R2. I will need to make sure new VMs will be re-ip'ed with the same IP so i don't have to touch every single device and point it to new ESRS server. How would i accomplish that ? Can it be a "rolling" upgrade where i take one ESRS server offline (win2k3 machine), take new Win2k8 server, rename /re-ip so it matches old ESRS server and then set it up as new ESRS 2.x gateway ?
Thank you

Option 2 would be the best solution. Take one Gateway offline, upgrade to W2K8R2, configure the new VM, install ESRS 2.10, migrate your existing devices over to this server and repeat the process (except for device migration) on the 2nd Gateway. Correctly done, there would be limited impact on remote access and connect home. A procedure could be developed if you wanted to see the detailed steps.

Thank you James, one caveat is that my policy manager will need to migrate to a brand new server with new DNS name and IP address. How would it impact my migration ? Would PM server be the last one to be upgraded and then i would need to touch every gateway and point them to the new PM server ?
Thanks
