Replistor 6.4 to 5.3 wipes home folders?
I hope you can help
we have upgraded somew of our servers from replistor 5.3 to 6.4
some servers are still on 5.3
a few days ago a admin created a spec to replicate data from the 6.4 server to the 5.3 server (we had told them not to do this)
we noticed the target destination becmae read only (though protect target files was not set on)
we are assuming this is part of the non compatability between 5.3 and 6.4
what i need to know is this
could the same spec have caused folders to have data deleted?
as we have a file server where a load but not all home folders have been wiped
we know a spec did exist that covered the home folders
and we know it caused a read only on those folders
we are trying to rule out causes and so i am seeking info and advise on could replistor be a cause hear

Chu017,
It is possible that the original spec did not have Delete Orphans turned on. What that option does, when it is checked (that is the Default) is compare the names of all the files on the Source node and deletes any files on the Target that were not on that list of files from the Source. This results in the same number of files on the Source and the Target nodes. If you want to just add additional files to the Target node and leave the existing files in-place, you would need to un-check the Delete Orphans box.
You did not mention any details about what kind of servers are used in the Source and Target nodes or if there is any other processes involved. Regarding the files appearing to be locked on the Target even though Target File Protection is not being used, I would to have more information. For example if this is a Many-to-One configuration, then another RS server may be locking these files. Another remote possibility would be when the files are under retention.
I would recommend opening a case with an EMC RepliStor support engineer to review this in more detail.

thanks for this
it turned out to be a member of my team creating a spec form a empty folder to the folder thatr contained all home folders for a site
thay had protect target files and delete orphans on
this resulted in the deletion of home folders
and the locaking of all the rest
fortunatly the protect terget option alerted us to the issue after about 15 mins
allowing us to kill the spec before all home oflders were wiped out
thankyou for your asistance so much
