Regarding Recoverpoint snapshot granularity

Hi all,

I have several questions regarding recoverpoint snapshot granularity. Can somebody help?

1. Assume i set the snapshot granulatiry fixed/second, will it take a snapshot every second even if no change is made on the production volumes ?

2. I can only see 1000+ snapshots in the recoverpoint navisphere GUI, how can i see all the snapshots ?

Thanks.

Hi there,

If there's a need for an urgent answer, then a SR is in order (can be opened even for a question).

To answer your questions though:

1) Yes, even if there's no change on the production, there might be OS writes, especially if replicating datastores.

2) That is by design, you can search for a specific timeframe when testing a copy through Unisphere for RP/CLI or our RESTful interface.

First i would thank you for your answer.

Just curious, your said 'Yes, even if there's no change on the production, there might be OS writes, especially if replicating datastores.',

Assume i just replicate the data luns(not virtual machine), when i close the application(means no write to the data luns), will it create a snapshot every second ?

Even in CLI, i can only see 2 snapshot in the last 5 minutes.

LiQun_R1> get_images group=CG_JB_DASDATA3 copy=CDP from='5 mins ago' to='0 mins ago'

Copy:

  CDP:

    Images:

      07:54:25:686790 27/09/2016 189.09 KB                                                                    Crash consistent

      07:53:49:611086 27/09/2016 2.80 MB                                                                      Crash consistent

    Current Image: 07:21:31:246971 27/09/2016

BTW, What does current image mean ? The image just distributing to the replicate LUN ?

Hi there,

Try to use image access to search in a certain period to get the full list of images.

When performing image access and you see current image, it means that image access is enabled on a specific image, that's the current image.

Idan
