r740xd uefi0067 a pcie link training failure is observed

Hi guys!

I faced a problem with my r740xd

uefi0067 a pcie link training failure is observed in bus 176 or 174 Dev:4 F:0

and

uefi0031 a pcie downtrain is detected on bus176 or 174 Dev:4 F:0  expected link width: x16 and actual link width: x8

I've tried to set bifurcation in auto mode but no changes.

could you please advice how to fix this and how to detect which devices causes this issue, don’t understand how to find problematic device in lspci output form OS side and which firmware I need to update

thanks in advance!

Hi @LeoNeed,

The error in screenshot is showing a relation to Slot 4, that might mean Riser 2 Slot 4 might be having an issue. Can you check if there is any PCIe card install in that slot? https://dell.to/45mUhtY. If no, can you remove the riser out from the server and try to boot to check the error persist.

This error, might also relate to the cables connected to the backplane. Can you make sure (by removing and reinstall securely) that the cables are connected properly at both ends.

BIOS, iDRAC and CLPD have minor updates, could you get them up to date. What 2 drives are used?

LeoNeed,

Would you confirm a couple of things for me?

Are you able to boot to the OS, if so what is the OS that's installed?

Do you have NVMe drives installed in the server?

Is the server up to date on BIOS, iDrac, Raid controller, etc?

Lastly, is there anything additional that you can see, that stands out in the hardware log?

Let me know and we can go from there.
