Issue with controller PERC H965i Controller, Front, DCMHS not recognising NVME
We have a server <Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin>
. We have ordered this with x1 SAS disk however I had advised our Dell account manager that we will be adding NVME disks. For some reason the NVMEs are not recognized. Controller PERC H965i Controller, Front, DCMHS Chassis with 8 Universal Drive Slots (SAS/SATA/NVMe), Front PERC12 ( in fact on the Dell configurator you can choose SAS and NVME disks together). NVME are not Dell

Boltwebster01,
If the R6725 was ordered with a SAS/SATA configuration then we can't support a configuration change to NVMe. Now if the server was ordered with NVMe backplane and hardware you may want to look at the BOSS controller over the H965i.
Controller, BOSS, DCMH5, 17G, V2
Let me know if this helps.

So an update on the below perhaps I was not clear...So the controller see’s the disks, however does not allow us to create a hardware raid or volume
I read somewhere that the configuration might be different and in order to get hardware raid on nvme some cabling might need to be different,
So vmware see’s the disks and they are showing in the controller, but won’t allow us to create a raid, I had also enabled the setting about the non dell disks last night, but it did not help unfortunately

Hello,
I just shared a post and also saw this new thread. We can continue with on this thread. I'm sharing my same post also below:
"I want to share something came to my mind regarding your issue, first please ensure your NVMe drives are Dell-certified, as non-Dell drives might not be recognized due to firmware issues. Dell supports NVMe drive speeds of 8 GT/s (Gen 3) and 16 GT/s (Gen 4) at a maximum x2 lane width. However, Dell does not officially support NVMe drives with EEDP enabled, even if the feature is active. You can check this feature on your drives."
Hope that helps!

@DELL-Erman O I beleive that is not the issue. The disks are visible on Idrac/bios etc however we cannot configure HW RAID on the NVME disks. Its seems this is a know issue as some type of backplane cabling needs adjusting

Could you check cable routing from here ? You can find NVMe cabling routes for your R6725.

So your server doesn't have NVMe routing. You can see the other figures which have NVMe cable routings on the same page. But I don't recommend to change any hardware without factory release for cable routing. Because all SAS chain need to adjust and a lot tweaks https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r6725/r6725_ism/cable-routing?guid=guid-a2c88059-07b8-4e9b-b9c2-061f0fad3066&lang=en-us I couldn't see SKU numbers, I think only the sales team can do. However, here is the backplane part number on your server: NKPKX

@DELL-Erman O thank you. We were quite clear with the sales team that we require HW raid on NVME. having said that, which figure do we need to follow in order to obtain HW raid on NVMEs? As I see more than 1 figure available. I will check the SKUs for backplane and cables with the sales team

yes I see. And I want to remind you might be also non-certified disks can cause some issues. I would reach to local Dell support team because I think this is a new model and they can help to clear some points. Because we can't allow giving any recommendations about configurations and configuration changes.
