IDRAC License

Dear community,

I don't know if this is the right place, and please apologies if not. I replaced a motherboard on a PowerEdge R740, and the IDRAC license is not available anymore. I have the SN, and every information needed. Can you please assist me in solving this issue ?

Hello,

First I recommend you checked that you input your Service Tag when changing your motherboard. Make sure it is entered correctly as it cannot be changes and requires another motherboard to be replaced and set Service Tag correctly.

Typical you would want to transfer ownership of the service tag to your name with the Ownership Transfer form then look in the Digital Locker to find the license.

If you are original owner then go straight to How to obtain iDRAC licenses from Dell Digital Locker.

Ownership Transfer and Dell Product Registration Guides

It describes what to do for third-party, such as eBay, purchases

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000125103/ownership-transfer-and-dell-product-registration-guides

If the ownership didn't go through then you will need to contact Customer Care in your region to see if they need more information. Customer Care: 1 (800) 624-9897 for US/Canada

Not once it is set, it is hard coded to the board once entered, so as Charles stated, you need to be certain the svc tag entered is correct, as there is no going back once it is entered.

Thank you very much Charles, and please apologies for the delay with my answer.

I tried to set the service tag manually from the boot menu, but i wasn't able to find the "Service Tag settings" option as mentioned here: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r740/per740_ism_pub/restoring-the-service-tag-using-easy-restore?guid=guid-2caf7c15-9c23-4cd4-a738-6b2c17f6f038&lang=en-us

By any chance, is there something a missed ?

Seb_dc,

Would you confirm a couple things for me?

Was the board bought new from Dell?

Is there a service tag already being reflected?

I ask as I am trying to determine if this is a used board, so replacing the service tag wouldn't be an option.

Also, where is the server on BIOS, iDrac, etc?

@DELL-Chris H

According to the info i have, the systemboard has been replaced, but all other component were switched from the old one (faulty) to the new one. I have 2 ST, one in the information panel (original one), the other one in the browser tab (new one ?)

This hasn't been purchased from Dell, even the replacement (certified partner). It comes from a recycled machine probably.

We're a bit late on versions. BIOS is 2.21.2, IDRAC is 7.00.00.172.

As I understand, if the "new" systemboard has been used before, we cannot set the ST manually, right ?

That is correct, the motherboard must be new, and can't be associated to a svc tag previously, or you won't be able to add the correct service tag.

Thank you very much @DELL-Chris H

Is there any possibility we can reset it ?
