Flashing yellow amber lights on new drives (PERC H730P and PowerEdge R930)

Service tag:

PowerEdge R930

PERC H730P

Drives I'm using:

HGST

HDD: 7K1000-1000

HTS721010A9E630

I have 6 drives.  Two mirrored for OS and the remainder for a RAID5 volume.

I managed to get the drives recognized once I put them in slots 12 or higher.

Anyway, once I put them in 12-17 or 18-23, I was able to see the drives from lifecycle controller and was able to create virtual drives.

Once I loaded the OS and booted into it (Redhat 7.4), the drives worked (I could access them and write data), but all drives are flashing amber.

Why is this?

I thought I read somewhere the drives I have may potentially be running at half speed or aren't 100% compatible.

Can someone tell me if these drives should work optimally with this controller?

If not, where can I get a list of drives that should work properly with this perc H730P?

There shouldn't be any risk of them failing faster. You could run a drive self test and make sure they pass, but most likely it just isn't reading the status correctly and the drives are fine.

Hi,

If they are non Dell drives they may not work properly. You may want to update the firmware on the controller.

I had previously completed updates from the Dell bootable ISO.  I validated that the H730P is already at the latest version.  Any other options beyond replacing my drives, which are functioning properly except for the amber lights?

No, you either have to replace them or ignore the lights.

I'm semi-okay with ignoring the lights, but is there additional risk in them failing (or having a short life) since they have amber lights?

If I decide to replace the drives, should these work in this computer with the PERC H730P?

That looks like a 3.5” drive and it has 2.5” slots. Try part number 56M6W.
