E20-120 syllabus change

Hi,

I am planning to write E20-120 within June 2010,but i heard syllabus is going to change from june 2010.Is it true?.Should i take the test before that.If yes what material should i read from?.I am using pawan kumar and cs6.5 fundamentals. Is it enough or should i read from extra materials?.I don have much real time experience in documentum,is it possible to write the test with theory and little pratical knowledge..

In short:

1.Is syllabus going to change?

2.Should i take test before it changes?

3.Is pawan kumar and cs 6.5 fundamentals alone enough for E20-120

Hello. The EMC Proven Professional Program does not support or condone the use of cheat sites (as mentioned earlier in the discussion with dm cram) for our exams. While some people may claim to be successful in using those sites, the best way to prepare for the exam is to read the exam description and study the topics included in it. We do provide a practice test to give you an idea of the types of questions we have on the exam. All of this information is provided in the following links. We update our exams on a regular basis to prevent such information from being distributed to external sites and we provide multiple versions of each test on a random basis. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

It is unfortunate that you refer to dm_cram as a "cheat site".

dm_cram neither condones nor supports posting of copyrighted material. In fact, dm_cram has promptly cooperated with EMC in the past when an inappropriate post was reported. The practice material (facts and practice questions) on the site are based on the published syllabus of the exam. The site claims no affiliation with EMC nor does it claim any material to be taken from the actual exams. The site links back to EMC pages for training, courses, and practice questions as a part of preparation resources. There are articles on the site advising people that there is no substitute for a good understanding of the subject if they want to succeed in this domain. The site augments the resources provided by EMC and encourages developers to adopt Documentum.

Finally, the site has over 60 registered users from EMC so any inappropriate material should be caught promptly.

There are many sites that offer study materials to pass certification exams.  These sites are not "public service" sites, they exist to profit from people who want to get certified.  Why would a candidate search these sites for aides to pass an exam when there is an authorized site with approved study materials readily available?   My experience has been candidates using these sites are looking to "short cut" the learning process, as opposed to adequately preparing.  As a hiring manager I would not favor hiring a person if I knew they took shortcuts and really did not have the knowledge a certification suggests they have.  Do you have a different opinion?

Thanks for asking my opinion on this as some of these concerns are very close to my heart. I agree on some of your points and differ on some suggestions/inferences - that's natural as we have had different sets of experiences.

I am only acquainted to such "cheat sites" via spam/ads so I don't have much knowledge about them nor do I have any regard for them. My remarks were specific to dm_cram, and it does not fit the characterization of "these sites" that you provided. dm_cram does not sell anything, though it does provide relevant externals links to EMC education pages and to Documentum books. All content on the site is free, and the users are free to spend their money on training and books as they please.

I have been involved with hiring for technical roles for over 12 years and my current approach is a result of evolution through this experience. I look at candidate resumes for only two purposes - for screening the candidate before the interview and for disqualifying the candidate if it proves to contain lies. Certifications, experience, and other information plays no role in my selection decision, which is formed purely based on the interview. The candidate has to demonstrate the knowledge/skills required for the role in order to be selected.

What does it suggest if a candidate is certified? People have a diverse set of strong opinions about this question, and these opinions are not specific to Documentum or EMC certifications. As I mentioned above, I only consider it for screening/sorting the resumes. On the personal side (when I take a certification exam), I value certifications only for the opportunity they provide me for structured learning while preparing for the exam. I understand it if you place more weight on certifications on a candidate resume.

In my opinion, short cuts are relative and not all of them are bad. For example, buying Documentum is a short cut compared to creating one's own CMS from scratch. A good candidate ought to be able to make judicious choices about short cuts and the associated costs.
