Certification
Hi,
Passed "
(E20-538) Network Attached Storage (NAS) Specialist Exam for
Storage Administrators.
"
yesterday.
After logging into the Proven Professional Website today, appears I also need to pass an "associate level generalist" test to be certified?

Hello - congratulations on passing the E20-538 exam!
You are correct that the Storage Administrator, Network Attached Storage (NAS) certification requires the completion of the E20-538 exam and an Associate level certification.
Details regarding the available Information Storage and Management certification can be found here. This page contains a link to the curriculum details as well as to the exam description (top right corner). Be sure to check out the EMC Proven Professional Starter Kit which is offered at a 72% discount!

The foundation practise exam asks questsions about:
1. ECC
2. Rainfinity
3. Non-NDMP backups methodology
4. Information Life Cycle Management planning
5. How Symmetrix SRDF works
6. How Symmertrix BCV works
7. Invista
8. Fabric Protocol details, such as FC0-FC4
None of these products or knowledge is required to be an effective administrator of EMC Celerra platform.
Furthermore, when I call EMC support for assistance everyone of those issues listed above the SR goes to seperate support areas.
Yet, EMC thinks customers needs to prove thier general knowledge of specific EMC products other then the EMC specific platform (Celera) they wish to be certified on.
What a scam to squeeze more money out of customers EMC is doing here.
This situation is a prime exampe of why Netapp is the market leader in the NAS marketplace.
Netapp clearly focuses on thier NAS product, provides a focused training on thier NAS product and provides a NAS Ontap focused Certification.
With EMC, you need to learn ECC, Symetrix, Clarrion, Fiber Channel Zoning, Fiber Channel low level protocol details, non NDMP backups configurations, Invista, Rainfinity to prove your certified to administrator a Celerra.
There is no "EMC Certifcations for the Celerra platforms EMC sells", instead there is a "General NAS certification" that requires advanced knowledge of other EMC products.
What a scam.

The EMC Proven Professional program was designed to provide individuals with a strong understanding of general storage concepts and principles before specializing in a specific product. Individuals must first earn an associate-level certification to demonstrate their general storage knowledge in order to progress to a specialist-level certification.
The associate-level Information and Storage Management (ISM) exam focuses on underlying information storage technologies and concepts. It is a pre-requisite for all of the Storage Administrator specialist-level exams including Celerra, VNX, CLARiiON, Symmetrix, etc. A limited number of questions refer to EMC product examples that are used in the training to reinforce the knowledge of general storage technologies and concepts. The practice test is provided as a tool to help prepare for the exam. It allows individuals to become familiar with the topics and types of questions that will appear in the proctored exam, in addition to highlighting any topics that may require additional studying.
If you would like to discuss further, please send a private message with your contact information and we will ask one of our program managers to follow up with you.
