Hello Puppyg1rl,
Thank you for posting to the forum. The 1710n does not have Windows 8/8.1 drivers, nor are there any plans to release any due to the age of the unit. Your best option is trying to use the Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode using the instructions below.

Hello Robin,
Thank you for posting to the forum. I am assuming by utilities you mean the toner/printer management software? You do not need those to run the printer, just the basic driver.
