Problems with Dell AIO 962 - Not printing after reinstalling drivers

In the middle of a scanning/printing project I suddenly received an error message (no error # just a dialog box that popped up) that the printer and computer were not communicating.  Suggestions listed were to check all cables - I did.  Restart computer - I did.  Uninstall/reinstall drivers - I did this 1.  by downloading drivers from dell site - did not solve problem.  2.  Using the printer install disk and reinstalling the printer.  Now when I print the computer does everything as always - the print dialog box appears and indicates that printing has completed 100% but nothing ever prints from printer.  I can press the button on the printer and copy and a copy will print out but nothing from the computer.  Can anyone help me?

Hi JoJoKizz,

I must appreciate the ease with which you are handling this technical issue on your computer.

There are a set of Services which has to be started. These are required by the printer to scan and print the documents from the computer.

Please perform the steps below and ensure that the services required are started:

  • Press the “Windows + R” to launch the run window.
  • Type “Services.msc” in the run window and hit the Enter key.

Right click each service mentioned below, click properties. Set the startup type as “Automatic” from the drop down menu and click “Start”. Please click “Apply” to save the changes.

The services to be enabled are:

  • Human Interface Devices (HID).
  • Printer Spooler.
  • RPC (Remote Procedure Call).
  • RPC Locator (Remote Procedure Call Locator).
  • Windows image acquisition (WIA).
  • Windows Installer.

After starting the services, restart the computer and try to print from the computer. If the problem still persists uninstall the printer drivers from the computer.

Follow the steps to uninstall the printer drivers from the computer:

  1. Click “Start”.
  2. Select “Control Panel”.
  3. Select “Add or Remove Program” (for windows xp operating system).
  4. Select “Programs and features”. (for Windows Vista/7 operating system).
  5. Select the printer model Dell V305 and uninstall it.
  6. Disconnect the USB cable of the printer from the computer.
  7. Restart the computer for saving the changes.

These steps will uninstall the printer drivers.

Insert the printer driver’s cd for a Dell 962 printer and install the drivers in the computer.

NOTE: Please do not connect the printer using the USB cable to the computer prior to installing the drivers.

Connect the printer using the USB cable when prompted. Try Scanning and printing the document from the computer.

If issue persists, please let me know the operating system present in the new computer.

Please post the results.

Hi Nikhil D:

My Printer is now working again!  Thank you so much for your very clear, easy to follow instructions.  I did have to uninstall and reinstall the printer/drivers but after following the procedure you outlined all is now well.  I am working on a Dell Dimension 2400 (not a new computer by any means) with Win XP.  I thank you again and hope you have a very Happy New Year.
