printer V305 CARTRIDGES ERROR
I am an Italian DELL user (sorry for my English)
My printer's cartridges are filled with ink, but printer continuously reports CARTRIDGE ERROR and prevents me from printing.
I proceeded to run the wizard to clean the cartridges but the problem is not solved. what can I do?
Buying new cartridges will solve the problem or the problem is in the printer?
Thanks in advance for your cooperation

Hi,
Welcome to Dell Community Forum.
If you are getting the Cartridge error message which is not specifically for either the left or the right cartridge, then one or both of the ink cartridges are invalid. Remove both cartridges, then install one at a time to determine which is invalid. Also try checking with an old cartridge to see if you still get the same error.
Let me know if further help is needed.
Thanks and regards,

Many thanks for your prompt answer.
I removed black cartridge and printer seemd to work properly.
So if I buy a new black cartridge, do I solve the problem or is there still a problem in the printer?
Thanks and regards.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
Since the printer seemed to work properly on removal of the black ink cartridge, a replacement cartridge may help resolve the issue.
Where did you purchase the ink cartridge from and when?
Please reply so that I may assist you better.
Thanks and regards,

Hi Alemxx,
Thank you for your reply.
There are several possible reasons a printer may not recognize a newly- installed cartridge. Some of them are listed below.
• Protective clips, tape, or tabs are still in place. Please remove all clips, tape, and tabs from the cartridge before installing.
• Inaccurate ink sensor. The sensor may incorrectly read the ink level preventing the cartridge from being installed. Follow steps for re-setting printer to resolve this issue.
• Printer needs to be reset:
(1) remove both cartridges
(2) turn the printer off,
(3) unplug the printer and wait 5 minutes,
(4) plug the printer back in,
(5) turn the printer on, and
(6) install the cartridges, one at a time
If you are installing more than one cartridge, be sure to install only one cartridge until the printer recognizes it, and then continue installing the next one.
Please try the steps mentioned above and let me know if further help is needed.
Thanks and regards,

Many thanks again for your help.
I followed all your instructions and also cleaned the colours cartridge (as suggested in users guide) but the problem has not been solved.
The printer do not recognize NEW colours cartridge. If I put again empty colours cartridge the printer recognize it and informs that it is not full.
What can I do now?
Best regards,
ale

Ale,
Please continue with Babita.
Are you using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, a generic brand or refilled cartridges?
I suspect if these are Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, the sensor is bad, it happens. Take it to the place of purchase for a replacement.
If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.
Power on the printer.
Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 9 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 9 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.
Any error messages?
black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)
photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)
Dell Series 9 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.
Dell Series 9 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.
It's possible to get a Dell Series 9 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would take these back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

Hi Ale,
Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not be reset, hence may continue to give you the low-ink error messages in case you are using refilled cartridges. Non-Dell brand ink cartridges do not contain the chip that tells the printer that a new cartridge has been installed. If the printer is detecting the older cartridges (though they are not full) and it is not able to detect the new ink cartridges, the problem could be with the new cartridges and they may require replacement.
Please check the Article in the link mentioned below which you may find useful in answering your query.

Hello,
I installed two new print cartridges. The printer worked well for about three days then stopped with the same 'cartridge error'. I'm trying to order two more new Dell cartridges for my Dell V305 but it seems Dell is currently out of stock. Any suggestions? I don't think it's the cartridges because they worked when first installed then stopped with same error again.
Thanks, Frank
