Odd V313 Printing Problem

I am trying to help a friend of mine with his computer system. The computer is a new 64-bit model running Windows 7. Everything works fine except for his Dell V313w printer. The printer is connected directly to the computer via a USB cable (no networking or wireless factors are involved). When we try and print something (anything) beyond a single page in length, the first page prints, but then nothing else does (and even that doesn't always happen). Yet the remainder of the spooled file is stuck in the print queue and cannot be deleted in the normal way. It has to be removed manually via clearing the print queue (stop spooler service, clear the print spool folder, etc.). For example, when printing a Windows test page, the first page prints, but it seems to get cut off at the bottom before the printing completes. There is a long list of drivers used by this printer, and only the top part of the letters of the final line on the page prints. Then .... nothing. I should note that the printer is able to print out a Dell test page when the printing is initiated from the printer itself (as opposed to the Dell Printer Home software, which works - or does not work - the same way everything else does that we try to print from the computer). I have removed and reinstalled the printer software from scratch, I have updated the drivers and the printer software to the latest versions (per Dell's web site). I have used a different USB port on the computer and a different USB cable between the printer and the computer. None of these things have helped. There seems to be some kind of communication problem between the computer and the V313 printer. However, I even hooked up another printer to the same machine (same port, same cable, etc.), and it works perfectly. So, it looks like the communication problem is on the Dell printer side. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer with this frustrating problem. Thanks.

JRN92,

In the December batch of Windows Updates, Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. IE11 had been causing printer problems.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

Rick, Thanks for your suggestion. The machine in question (new) does have IE 11 installed. What will they be left with for an Internet browser if I remove IE 11 as you suggest? I use IE 11 on most of my machines, and have never had a printing problem anywhere when IE 11 is installed. This must be something rare and particular to the Dell V313 printer (or perhaps a small group of other printers as well). It's like the OS can't get the printout (spooled file) from the print queue to the printer itself. John

John,

If you remove Internet Explorer 11 it should revert back to Internet Explorer 10

Thanks very much for your help with this question, Rick. Removing Internet Explorer 11 solved the problem completely. By the way, after I removed IE 11, the version that was on the machine reverted all the way back to Internet Explorer 8. I had to install several Windows updates to get it back to IE 10. Speaking of that, Internet Explorer 11 is tightly integrated with Windows 7 SP1. It is part of the automatic Windows update process. In other words, unless steps are taken, it will be automatically reinstalled by the Windows update process (which would cause the problem wit the V313 to start again). In my case, I temporarily modified the Windows update settings to NOT automatically install any updates (just to download them, but wait for permission to install the updates). I then located the Internet Explorer 11 update and changed it to "hidden" status so Windows would not continue to prompt for its installation (or, hopefully, not automatically reinstall it at some point in the future). Although Windows will apply updates to IE 10, it has not attempted to upgrade to version 11. So, the Dell V313 printer continues to operate correctly.

JRN92,

You can right click on IE11 and hide the update.

The other solution(I don't recommend) is to turn off the balloon tips. You cannot tell when the printer is low on ink.

( First I must let you know I am technically challenged and know very little about computers) I have a similar printing problem with my V313 Printer. If I attempt to print my first document, it prints with no problem. When I attempt to print a second document, the printer seems to load the paper (i.e. get ready to print) but nothing happens. I have attempted to "cancel, restart and resubmit" but nothing happens. If I turn off the PC ( Dell Inspiron) and then turn it back on, the printer starts and prints out all of the documents in the queue. This same thing happens to my wife's v313 printer ( also running a Dell PC but different model). I was looking through different topic and came across this one referring to IE11. We are both running IE11 but I believe we have had this problem in earlier versions of IE. Not sure it this has been covered in another topic. If so, can you lead me to it? Thanks

dellfrank,

The easiest solution is to remove IE11. You should be reverted at an earlier version. The second solution is to disable the printers balloon tips, but you cannot tell if the printer is jammed or the ink is low or out of ink.

Has there been any update to this printer communication problem with Internet Explorer 11 and Dell Printers?   I purchased a new computer and I cannot uninstall IE11.  I was able to uncheck it, but printer still has issues.  I don't have an icon for IE10, but when I tried to downlad it, I get a message that it is already installed.  I have a Dell 713W and Dell V515.  Both printers have issues.  Thanks

My Problem has not been solved. I have two Dells running Windows 7 and IE 11. The printer will print the first document. The following documents still get hung up in the que. I Can see them listed but they will not print out until I shut off the computer and then restart. Then the documents come printing. If you have a new computer , possibly you might have some type of warranty or one year service that the manufacturer can try to somehow get this worked out. Wish I had a better Response.

Sounds to me like they (Microsoft, Dell, whomever)  want us to have to purchase new printers!!!!

GAC1915,

The problem only started after Microsoft released Internet Explorer 11 in December. The easiest solution is to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and the printing problem goes away.

The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.

Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.
