Need Compatible Printer For Dell Inspiron 560
I wonder if someone can please help me, I've tried to work backwards (from my ink) to find a printer for my desktop with no luck and am at my wits end. I had an HP PSC (printer/scanner/copier) when I had my HP desktop, but then I upgraded to my current Dell a couple of years ago and never hooked up my printer as I didn't need it right away. Time went by and I tried printing but got an error saying it wasn't installed; I remembered that I never installed it on this Dell PC when I unpacked it & set it up. I soon found out that it was 'not compatible' and of course this was after (it figures) I had just bought new ink for the printer, so now it sits with brand new ink (already opened so can't return) and can't connect to my Dell. I looked all over for updates or driver updates etc, but no luck & finally HP told me there is no way they're compatible. It uses #21 & #22 (black & tri-color) ink cartridges so now I am attempting to find a printer that's not only compatible with my Dell but that also uses the full/new ink cartridges that I have. I would really appreciate any help someone can offer, I can't afford to just buy a brand new printer from the site so any that will work are fine, I just need to get an idea of which will work so then I know what I can get. Thank you!

Hi NYPrettyKitty,
Welcome to the community.
Please let us know the version of Windows installed on the system. Most of the new printer would work with Windows 7 and Windows 8.
However, printer cartridges of a different printer would not be compatible with ours.
Thanks and Regards

Hello & thank you. I checked computer 'properties' & it says Windows 7 Home Premium, I can find a printer that works with my PC, I am trying to find one that works/is compatible AND uses the new full ink I have so I am not out the $40 I paid for the ink and now can't use. So different printer brands aren't able to be used with different PC brands? I was told by an electronics employee that most are interchangeable/compatible. =/

Hi NYPrettyKitty,
I am afraid to inform you that all Dell printers would require Dell cartridges only and other printer cartridge would not work on this printer.
If you have any further queries please feel free to contact us.
Thanks and Regards

Thank you for your reply again. So are there only Dell printers that would work with this Dell PC? It's a little confusing as there are so many different brands of printers that can be used with different brands of computers.

NYPrettyKitty,
In addition to what DELL-Sandeep P stated...
You said...
There can be different situations that the printer may or may not install. It can be stuck print job(s) in the queue, faulty ink cartridges, drivers issues. If the printer can work as a stand alone version, can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color? If the printer was in storage for a long period of time and the ink cartridges, there is a very good chance the ink cartridges may also be dried up and malfunction.
Can you please provide the make and model of your HP Printer.
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
Can you also provide the virus program and firewall you're using?

Rick,
The printer (HP PSC 1400 All-in-One) was just never installed on my at the time new Dell as I didn't have an immediate need for it so I just didn't install it. But then when I did need it I tried to install it and it said not compatible. That was the reason, not that it was stuck, had old ink or anything; I can't copy or do anything as I can't use it with this PC. A friend told me that my Dell was too 'new' for it & to look for driver updates and such but no luck.

NYPrettyKitty,
Without the make and model of your computer and opertaing system, it's kinda hard to help you. There are some known issues and maybe your system is one of them.
What virus program and firewall do you have installed?
The basics are...
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.
(Windows 8, hit the Windows key the the x keys at the same time)
Start, control panel, programs and features, your HP Printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
This gives you a clean start with installing the printer.
Your printer has a different model number. Once you find the correct model number of your printer, install the drivers first. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.
