Laptop wont recognise printer

My Inspiron 9300 no longer recognises my V305 printer.  Windows XP Professional.  Ive downloaded a new printer driver, connected to the printer via wireless and USB lead, turned both pieces of hardware off and on, generally followed all the guides to correct the problem without success.  If the printer is capoot, how would I check? I can recognise my Cannon printer, but nothing on the Dell.   Any help, (preferably step-by-step) would be appreciated.

balladcafe,

Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color? If yes, then the printer works and it's a driver/communication problem.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

Start, control panel, add/remove programs, your Dell V305 printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer.

Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Go to Windows Updates select recommended updates and download and install all the .net framework updates that are there. You may have to do this a few times. .net framework is needed to install the printer.

With the computer online, insert the V305 printer disk and follow the instructions.
