I have a dell laptop computer and I need to turn something off  on my dell laptop for my HP printer to work. What is it?

YES! That was it.  I uninstalled the filter and my printer works perfectly.  Thank You so much.

Holly72557,

Did the printer work before?

Is the printer wired or wireless? If wireless was the printer working on your network?

Make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit? What version of Internet explorer is installed?

What virus program and firewall is installed?

Studio 1536. 32 bit. Charter internet security. I had this problem before when it was new. I had to turn something off and my printer worked. I do not remember what I did. Its an HP printer and Dell laptop

Holly72557,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart the computer.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Wait 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in. Power the printer on. If this is a wireless printer...

Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)

Holly72557,

Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

Charter Internet Security is using another brand for their security.

Let's try the easiest solution first...

In the last batch of Windows Updates, Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. IE11 had been causing printer problems.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.

Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

Its not a wireless printer. Dell laptops only print with dell printers unless you change a setting. I can not remember what I need to change.

Holly72557,

I have been helping people here since 2007 and have not heard about this. There were a few issues that I know of but Dell computers work with all brands of printers.

There are known issues, maybe you have one of these.

I have both a dell xerox printer and a hp printer. My dell xerox printer was connected with my system previously, so I decided to connect my hp printer with my router. At the time of connecting, it wanted a WPS pin. I somehow found the WPS pin on hp printer after searching many websites and connected it. But after that, my dell xerox printer is not working anymore. What should I do now?
