Driver for A960 won't install
I recently acquired a Dell A960 printer. I was trying to hook it up to my computer and was told that I need to download the new Windows7 drivers.
I downloaded the drivers successfully and when I went to unzip the file and install, they seemed to unzip correctly.
The problem is that at the last step, I was told that I don't have "adequate permissions" to completely unzip and install the files and that I need Administrator access. I am the only user on the computer and am listed as the administrator so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Is there a setting on the computer that I need to change in user controls? Is this an issue with the driver or with somethign else on the laptop?
Any help is appreciated.

That did the trick. Thank you for that last link. I was missing a step.

You should look at your Anti Virus settings. My symantec end point protection would not let me install drivers of any kind and until i found out this was the issue it drove me insane!

slpandmt,
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the
Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...
Dell A960 All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)
Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Rick,
Thanks for your reply. I did follow your instructions. The files unzip but I keep getting a message that the driver is not found. When I downloaded the appropriate driver, I changed the compatibility to Windows 7 (my operating system) and ran as administrator.
Firewalls are disabled so that is not the issue either.
Any other ideas?

Hi,
Welcome to the Community.
I understand that you want to install the A-960 to the system running on Windows7.
Although this printer is not compatible with windows7, however you can try to connect the printer via USB cable & download this driver by using the following link.
ftp.us.dell.com/.../R153052.exe
For any further queries, feel free to reply back on the same post.
Thanks
Ankit
