Dell V715W printer wifi light does not work

After my move, I tried to reset up my V715W printer in my new house, but the wifi light on the front is not lit up at all. If I power down the printer it light up orange for a second when all the other lights come on, but otherwise it stays off. I also can not set up the printer for wireless as it can not find any networks.

Any ideas?

Hi Kemias,

The Wi-Fi light on a wireless printer will only light up once there is a successful connection between the printer and the computer. Since it is not lighting up, it shows us that the printer and the computer are not wirelessly connected to each other.

We would need to uninstall the Dell V715W printer software from the control panel.

To uninstall the drivers, you would need to follow the following steps:

  • Navigate to Control Panel
  • Choose the “Programs and Features” option
  • Look for the Dell V715W. Right click the option and choose “Uninstall”

After you have uninstalled the printer, please go on to restart your computer. Once the computer has restarted, we would need to re-install the printer software.

You can find the printer drivers using this link: http://dell.to/10Y9vyU

Please click on “Download file” and follow the on screen instructions to install the printer.

Please make sure that you select the wireless setup when prompted and keep the printer USB cable handy as you may be prompted to plug it in momentarily.

I hope this helps. Please reply for any further assistance.

I tried this, but at the point where it asks what color the light currently is, the light is still not lit up. I've tried to fake it and claim it was orange or green but no networks end up showing up after it scans for them.

@RockStar-Rick

I tried this as well, but when I select network setup, the screen says "Network connection in progress" for a couple seconds, then send me back to the main set up menu.

Same result when attempting to get into the network settings menu as well

After pulling out the power brick and putting it all back together, the light still remains off completely.

Could the wifi adapter have been damaged in some way during the move? The printer still works fine other wise usb attached, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a wifi enabled printer...

Kemias,

The WiFi light should be green or orange. If it's not working, then unplug the printer from the wall, then remove the power brick for 60 seconds. This resets any error message the printer is getting.

If you using a different ISP modem and/or router, you'll need to setup everything like it's new.

That I can not...when trying to select the "Network Setup" option from the menu, it just displays "Network connection in progress..." then goes back to the root setup menu..

Kemias,

Maybe Jaskaran S. has some information, since he works for Dell.

Kemias,

I just checked my printer and do not see how to access the wireless adapter. Thinking it may have come loose.

See if you can reset the adapter...

Resetting the wireless settings to factory defaults

1From the printer control panel, press .

2Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Network Setup, and then press .

3Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Reset Network Adapter to Factory Defaults, and then press

4Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Yes, and then press .

The printer wireless settings are reset to factory default settings. To verify, print a network setup page.

Hi Kemias,

I am following on behalf of DELL-Jaskaran S.

As you have almost tried all troubleshooting steps, I suggest we try a few more which might help. Lets ensure that the printer firmware is upgraded, also we can try resetting the printer back to factory defaults. You may try these steps in the following order:

  • Upgrading the firmware:

  1. Connect the printer and the computer using the USB cable.
  2. Power on the printer and remove the Printhead from the printer.
  3. Close the lid once the Printhead is out and leave the printer on.
  4. Download the printer firmware from the link http://dell.to/ZIHbA3 . You will need to enter the service tag for the printer here and select the operating system before you download the printer firmware.
  5. Once the latest firmware is downloaded, follow the onscreen prompts to update it.

  • Resetting to Factory Settings:

  1. From the printer control panel, press Settings button.
  2. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Default option, and then press OK.
  3. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Set Defaults option, and then press OK.
  4. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Use Factory option, and then press OK.
  5. When prompted to set the Initial Settings of your printer, make your selections using the printer control panel buttons.
  6. Once it is reset, Initial Setup Complete message appears on the display.

At times, the Eco-Mode might get enabled by default after the factory reset. Follow the below mentioned steps to change the Eco-Mode settings:

  1. From the printer control panel, press Settings button.
  2. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Device Setup option, and then press OK.
  3. Press the arrow buttons to scroll to Eco-Mode.
  4. Select Eco-Mode settings, and then press OK.
  5. Press the back arrow button until you exit Setup, or press another mode button.

  • Clean uninstall and re-installing the printer:

  1. You may refer to the above replies to follow the process for clean un-installation of the printer.
  2. Restart the computer.
  3. Use the CD sent along the printer to re-install it again. First install it using the USB cable setup following the onscreen instructions.
  4. Once done, please open the Dell Printer Home, select Dell Wireless Utility Setup and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up through wireless connection.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any further questions.

Sorry for such a late response, been really busy lately.

I've gotten through your list finally but the same problem persists. Everything seems to work excluding the wifi capabilities. The light stays off and it can not find networks during attempted wireless set up.

Hi Kemias,

Please try to force the wireless settings on the printer. Following are the steps:

  • Click on the Unlisted Networks where it displays list of network names.
  • Enter the Network Name, and then click Continue.
  • Select the type of Network Security the wireless router has, and then click Continue.
  • If asked enter the Network Security Key, and then click Continue.
  • Review and make sure the settings are correct (if not click back to make changes), then click Continue. (The printer is configured and shall connect to wireless network)
  • The Allow Dell Software window may appear, if so read the instructions, write down any notes needed, then click OK.
  • When instructed remove the USB cable from the computer and the printer.
  • Click Finish to exit the setup.

Also you may refer to the link  http://dell.to/WFzSd3 for more information on this. If this does not work, printer may need to be replaced.
