Dell V313 not printing after system restore

Apologies if I should have posted this elsewhere.

I have a Dell V313 all-in-one printer, using Windows 7, 64-bit. I really like the printer.

I used the "remove IE11 update" to great effect, and it continued to print well for about a month, until..

My father ran a system restore point to remedy another problem, and now I can no longer print. Doh!

I moved that pesky IE11 update again, but that did not solve the problem.

When I 'Launch Dell Printer Home', instead of opening the main menu, a dialog box pops up, asking me if I want to open, save, or cancel downloading a temporary file named 'DSX####.tmp', where the # changes every time.

I opened it with notepad, and this file seems to contain a rudimentary text version of that main menu, but obviously it's not interactive. (The Dell Printer Home menu itself never loads.)

Another interesting note is that when I print something (doesn't seem to matter from which program), the printer status box does not appear - what appears instead is an html file called jswdialog.html. This file is seemingly empty.

I made sure java and the java run time environment were up to date, just in case. I have tried removing all traces of the printer (deleting prints jobs, clearing queue, stopping/starting print spooler, uninstalling printer, uninstalling drivers), and reinstalling everything from scratch, even down to the printer firmware, but nothing will print when I ask it to.

Instead, it adds the job to the print queue, which then comes out after a reboot.

The scanner function works from the printer itself, though that Dell Home Printer menu will not launch.

Any suggestions?? I must be missing something, but I don't know what. My last resort is to reinstall Windows, or reboot every time I want to print something, but I would rather not come to that.

Thanks for reading,

Matt

Matt,

Try these teaks and see if it prints. If it doesn't I can walk you through reinstalling the printer, but the print job(s) that may be stuck in the queue will need to be removed or the problem will remain.

Start, control panel, device manager.

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

--------------------------------------

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Matt,

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove stuck print job(s) from the queue, then restart your computer.

Make sure the printer is not usb cable connected.

I would them go to programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Install the printer. If the printer is already connected to your network, then choose additional computer, network and follow the instructions.

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Hi Rick,

Thanks very much for the advice. I followed these instructions, but I'm still having some of the same problems.

I can't print unless I reboot - then the job comes out.

When I try to print, the print status window does not come up. Instead, a dialog box called jswdialog.html pops up. It appears to be empty.

When I try to Launch Dell Printer Home, a temporary file called DSX####.tmp wants to download. The usual menu does not appear.

If I try to print more than once, nothing happens the second time. But all jobs come out after rebooting.

I made sure that IE11 update was removed. In fact, I removed IE entirely.

Could this be a PnP issue? I feel like everything is up to date, but I am out of ideas. If you think of something else, please let me know.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

The main problem is with IE11. It is causing this problem. Removing IE11, reverts your system back to IE10 and the problem goes away.

The other option is to turn off the balloon tips for the printer.

Start, control panel, devices and printer, your printer, printing preferences, advanced, more options. Tell it to never show. The problem with this setting is you cannot tell if you're low on ink, printer jams, Etc.

Hi Rick,

I appreciate the follow-up.

I removed IE11 and disabled balloon tips, but the problem persists.

I have tried everything else I can think of. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks,

Matt
