Dell C2665dnf Address book download from Active Directory

Does anyone have this or a similar printer downloading the email addressbook over LDAP from a Microsoft Active directory.

The manual is light on example data and I've been unable to get past connection failing error.

As seems to be the case with this printers web config, there is probably andother settings outside of the LDAP screens that I haven't got configured properly; possibly

  • Port Settings
  • Authentication System
  • Kerberos,
  • SSL/TLS,

Or something I've completely overlooked... I'm not a complete novice to Dell printers or LDAP integration. I have validated my settings using a third party LDAP and AD explorer apps and everything should work.... but of course it doesn't :-)

I've tried both SSL/TLS all 4 of the usual ports, LDAP and Kerberos authentication etc... and all combinations of these options with no progress beyond the connection error message on the printer UI.

Any screenshots or listed settings from a working configuration would be greatly appreciated.

Neil.

Thanks to ThunderGod2 for confirming this function actually works, unfortunately the recommended change didn't work for me.... BUT.... knowing that it was possible... I continued trying different options, and this is the configuration that finally worked for me.

The setup I have is a DC on 192.168.1.3 running Windows 2008 R2 and Active Directory  (there are other DC's in the network, but this is the one I usually authenticate to for printers and websites).

Navigate to the web interface for the printer and configure as follows.....

1. Menu : Print Server Settings > Print Server Settings > Port Settings

Set the "Update Address Book" check box to on and Apply.

2. Menu : Print Server Settings > Security > Authentication System

Set "Authentication System Settings" to LDAP and Apply.

3. Menu : Print Server Settings > Security > SSL/TLS

Clear the "LDAP - SSL/TLS Communication" check box and Apply.

4. Menu : Print Server Settings > Security > LDAP Server

Set "IP Address / Host Name & Port" to the IP of you DC/AD server (192.168.1.3 in my case)

Set the port number to 389

Set the "Search Directory Root" to the location where your users are. In my setup the path was something like this : OU=Office Users,OU=FOO,DC=FOO,DC=local

This represents a domain FOO.local which has an organisational unit FOO with a sub-org unit called "Office Users"

You can get the address for your own AD by using a free tool called ADExplorer from SysInternals (a Microsoft company)... Link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb963907.aspx  within the ADExplorer app you can navigate through the active directory in an LDAP type layout and once you've located the correct OU just Right-Click on it and select "Copy Object Name"

Set : "Login Credentials to Access LDAP Server" to System

Set : "Login Name" to a valid user for authenticating, you might need to add the domain as a suffix... e.g. joe@foo.local for user joe in my example

Set : "Password" and "Re-enter Password" to the authentication user's password.

Set : "Server Address Book" check box to On.... then Apply and Restart the printer.

Leave all the other LDAP or LDAP mapping settings as default and you should be good to go. My setup allows me to use the non-SSL/TLS connection on port 389, this can be verified with ADExplorer or other free LDAP explorer tools on the web.

Trying to recall from my recent LDAP Search setup on C2665dnf.

For simple LDAP Search without https ( no digital certificate import) is as follow

1) LDAP Authentication, LDAP User Mapping, authentication sytem to use LDAP

2)  Setup LDAP server

-Enable Server address book

- Search root field, this is important, simple setup should be "cn=users". Without this, it will not work.

Post your setup information here for proper guidance. Overall, follow the user guide will lead you to setup correctly.
