Dell AIO 926 Printer Copy/Scan Issue

3/25/2013

My 5-year old AIO 926 prints fine from email, word, excel, etc.  And it used to copy a page on the glass with no problem.

For the past 5-6 months when using the copy format, it skews a vertical column beginning 5 inches from the left margin to 6 inches, at which point it resumes printing correctly to the right margin.  This is consistent from top to bottom, like something was covering that part of the page on the glass.

I have uninstalled the printer 2 times, downloaded the printer driver many times, and reset the printer skew control as well, but nothing fixes this issue.  As the printer works fine from files sent from the PC, I am assuming there is not an issue with the cartridges.  I am not a PC guru, and use my setup only for fairly mundane personal stuff, so I am probably missing something complicated (to me) that I could try.  Can I get some plain language help for someone at the "PC's for Dummies" level of expertise?   Thanks.   Email replies would be appreciated: <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>

Hi Rick Carbonneau,

As we have tried all the aforementioned steps, there seems to be a hardware failure. Based on my experience the scanner belt while starting jams up a little causing this issue.

You may consider replacing the printer.

Do reply if you have any further questions.

Hi Rick Carbonneau,

The issue seems to be with the printer settings or software. You may try resetting the printer setting to factory defaults which might help.

The steps for restoring factory default settings are:

  1. Make sure that the printer is on.
  2. From the printer control panel, use the Arrow buttons to scroll to Maintenance, then press the Select button.
  3. Use the Arrow buttons to scroll to Set Defaults, then press the Select button.
  4. Use the Arrow buttons to scroll to Use Factory, then press the Select button.
  5. Settings are reset to factory defaults message might appear.

You may refer to the manual of this printer at the link  http://bit.ly/13xGjyC for more clarification.

Please refer to the link  http://dell.to/XCRqnr as it has all major issues for the printer related query answered.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Thanks for the suggestion. but unfortunately it did not solve the issue.  I neglected to mention in my original query that the same issue occurs when I try to scan anything into an application (MS Word, etc.).  The referenced link took me to a website that I have tried to use previously and also did not provide anything new to help.  As I said before, what is confusing is that prior to recently, there was no problem with copying.  Very strange.  Any further suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Thanks for the quick responses and help.  I was afraid the issue was hardware related, but hoping not.  I'll look for a replacement.
