Dell A940 stopped after loud bang
I have never had a problem with this printer until now. I started to print a page and it started as usual only to make a loud bang. At that point thepower light and screen went out. I have cleaned the encoder strip and the chrome cartridge. When I unplugged the power supply and then plugged it back up it tries to start but has a low buzz/humming sound and nothing else. Any help would be great as I purchased several new ink cartridges for the A940. Thanks in advance!

3PedalRacer,
Please read the second thread at...

Please do this when you have plenty of time and patience.

Hi:
I did a lot of research on the ac adapter. You cannot buy a new one at this time since the printer is pretty old.
I got mine from 4elec.com. The owner was very nice and assured me that I was going to be happy with my purchase. I ordered the part (Delta ADP-25FB AC Adapter) on Monday and received it today, so I was happy with the service and the packaging (he did a great job with the packaging).
You may also check Amazon, and Ascendtech.us but they are both more expensive.

The error and the unusual sound could be from the encoder strip.
From what I researched, it's good that you cleaned the encoder strip and cartridge. You can proceed by plugging in the printer and turning its power on.
After that, you must open the cover to allow the cartridge carriage to stay on the center.
Pinch the encoder strip on the left-hand side of the cartridge carriage using a dry and lint free cloth. Afterwards, you can pull your fingers across it towards the left-hand side of the printer.
Finally, remove the power brick for 1 minute to reset any error messages that the printer is getting.
Good luck, I hope you will soon be using your newly purchased ink cartridges for your A940. :emotion-1:

Thanks for the info. I checked his website, but he is out of adapters. After comparing prices I ordered one from eBay. It was $10.00 cheaper than the others. Should have it by middle of next week. I will let you know if this fixes my problem.

After cleaning the decoder strip, it still didn't work. I purchased another power adapter and it fixed the power issue. Now when I tried to copy a page it prints the whole page black. What have I messed up checking everything?
