Dell 966 printer driver
My printer stopped printing on one laptop but prints on another. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer with the disk but it tells me the printer driver didn't install. I downloaded the Dell recommended printer driver and the files were unzipped but I can't install the driver. Nothing happens from there.

gerriethole,
In the December batch of Windows Updates, Microsoft installed Internet Explorer 11. IE11 had been causing printer problems.
Open Internet Explorer, click on Help, then click on About Internet Explorer. It should show the version there. If you have IE11, then go to control panel, Windows Update, Installed Updates, look for Internet Explorer 11. Click on Internet Explorer 11, uninstall.
Restart the computer, when prompted. Then see if your printer works.

gerriethole,
Make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit?
Operating system in English or another language?
Printer wired or wireless? If wireless, is the printer already setup for your wireless network?
What virus program and firewall are you using?

I experienced the same problem and solved it by clearing Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service. You can also try removing the printer from your laptop and then reinstall it again. After that, check to see if the printer already works properly.

I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 times. I don't know how to clear printer spooler files.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your response. It's a Dell 966 AIO printer connected by a USB. I have Windows 7 64 bit and Norton 360. Language is English. The driver unzipped several folders and there is one that says install but no .exe file in any of the folders that I can see.

Hi Rick,
You were absolutely spot on. I do not use IE, I use Google Chrome. But I have my updates set to download automatically. When I turned IE off, I uninstalled and re-installed the printer again. Low and behold, it worked! Thank you so much for your help. Couldn't have done it without you.
