Hello DELICT,

I answered several of these questions on my previous post, but the developers are part of the print process and the are attached to the carousel. Each color is individual so one color can still be ok when others are affected. I still by my recommendation to replace the unit based on the age and complexity of the needed repair.

Hello DIGITALCREATIONSJLD35,

Thank you for posting to the forums. Unfortunately I can't make a determination of your issue based on the information at hand. Can you provide an image of the print quality issue?

Regards,

Joseph E

Hello DIGITALCREATIONSJLD35,

Thank you for posting the image. Initially I thought this could be a fuser or power issue where the fuser was not heating up enough to bind the toner to the paper, but since black is fine this pretty much rules this out. Your likely looking a developer issue, which is not something that is not easily serviced on this model. The developers are built into the rotating carousel that holds the toners.I am going to recommend replacement of the unit.

Regards,
Joseph E

What are developers please? What do they do? Where are they? Why does black not have the problem?  Are there any other possible reasons for smeared colour?

I've had this problem for a while and I find the lack of help on Dell's official sources more than a little disappointing. Since the rotating carousel a) costs a fortune and b) is not easy to remove, then it seems likely to be better value to get a new printer ...and not a Dell!

Many thanks for the reply, I understand and accept your recommendation but my questions were more specific and Intended for a better understanding of what exactly is going wrong. Please may I ask you to look again at my specific questions? Any extra understanding would be much appreciated.
