Dell 1720DN on OSX Yosemite not working
Can anyone get the dell 1720DN working on OSX Yosemite pleeeeeease!
BTY I have reset printer system reinstalled drivers, fixed permissions and all the usual stuff.
No Events found!

I randomly installed the Dell 2330DN print drivers since the "generic postscript" couldn't print PDFs. The Dell 2330DN print driver is working perfectly for my Dell 1720 printer. Can someone else please give them a try and report back? PDFs and browser prints worked fine in my test.
Step 1: Download and install the latest Dell 2330D/DN printer driver (updated in April)
Step 2: Reset the print system as mentioned in @AlStewarts previous post. (right click on existing printer)
Step 3: Choose the Dell 2330 drivers and click Add.

I have the same OS, same printer, same problem, and Googling it led me to your post above.
From System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, reset the printing system (Caution: this will remove all devices listed in the information window so make sure you're comfortable with adding them back) and then add the Dell printer again but this time as a generic postscript printer i.e. without using the Dell drivers - and remember to tick the 'duplex device' box.
Just done this myself and it works fine. I've probably lost some of the Dell specific functionality (e.g. reporting of supply levels) but better having some functionality than none!

Fantastic thank you, I can print again!
I had reset it before but I added it back with the same software / driver.
I did not realise I could choose to add it with generic/software driver.

I've tried all of this and I still can't even get the printer going, not even with the ordinary postscript drivers. Could this be a permissions issue? One of the error messages I get is "Cannot read the print job, 1 page." Any other suggestions?

This was not a solution for me. Dell needs a Yosemite driver for the dell 1720 printer

Many thanks to you for advice! I can now use my old DELL 1720DN printer with a 2330DN driver on a Mojave system.
