AIO926 fails alignment and has printing failures

I just unpacked and installed this printer using the Dell driver (R150575) for a Windows 7 64-bit system. The alignment error message says to remove tape but I did that and checked for any residual gum. The alignment printed page looks correct to me. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and, also, unplugging the printer and removing the block and waiting until the pilot light went out before reinstalling it. When I tried printing an email the paper fed but nothing was printed and when I tried to print my airline reservation confirmation the various box margins printed but not the text of the flight details. The printer copies correctly. I only just opened this printer because my AIO964 printer has failed after many years of service, probably a failure of the USB port. Thanks for any help, Norman

Printer alignment problem is usually related with paper or cartridges, and not necessarily the printer itself.

Usually the problem is caused by the cartridges. Low level of ink, defective or clogged nozzles, and cartridges past their shelf life can cause alignment error.

It is highly suggested to clean cartridge regularly because this can easily fix clogged nozzles.

Norman,

I'm guess that one or both of the Dell Series 9 ink cartridges has failed.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 9 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 9 color cartridge.

You are using Dell Series 9 ink cartridges, correct?

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 9 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)          Color cartridge = color side(right side)

It is possible to get a Dell Series 9 cartridge with a bad sensor. Contact the place of purchase for a replacement.

I tried the power block removal method but it did not fix the problem. Also, I removed both Series 9 cartridges and wiped them with a moist paper towel resulting in ink coming out of the print slots (black and three colors) and reinserted the cartridges. The alignment pages all look the same. Is there a sample alignment page somewhere for the aio926 printer? Also, the printing problem continues. For example I tried to print page 1 of this site on which I am typing this reply. All that printed was the image of a printer at the top of this page and the line "Dell Monitors, Printers, Projectors, Hardware and Software Discussion" followed by the line "Forums Create/Edit Post" followed by the line (in blue) "Options Preview" without the word "Compose". The word "Peripherals" and the 4 tabs did not print nor did anything else. Weird? Norman

Norman,

The printer should work like a copying machine.

Can you copy a document? Black and white and color?

To install the printer, it should be able to print.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...

The printer does copy and scan correctly. After uninstalling and reinstalling using various methods the problems persist but, if I set it to print in B&W only, nothing is printed so I think there is a problem in the path to and/or from the black cartridge. Also, the little printing and scanning I have done has just about drained the color cartridge. I will buy a new black cartridge to see if that cures the problem and I will let you know the outcome. Thanks for your continuing advice, Norman
