Precision 7540, HDMI out not working

Hello,

I have been using dock all the time, now I bought a new monitor and I wanted to connect directly to Precision 7540 HDMI or DP but it doesn't work, the monitor says there is no signal.

For troubleshooting I have a USB C to HDMI converter, when I used that and connect to USB C my external monitor works.

I want to know why I can not directly connect to the HDMI port? I have the latest bios and graphic card driver (INTEL UHD 630)

Thanks if you could help

Omid

@Nouroozi  Ok, it wasn’t totally clear to me that you weren’t using the dock anymore. In terms of the question, have you tried your system and that cable with another display/TV? Or tried the system and that display with another HDMI cable? Or tried that cable and that display’s HDMI input with slither source device? When something basic isn’t working, the first step is to isolate variables.

@Nouroozi  What exact system model, dock model, and display model are you using? When asking for technical assistance, it’s helpful to provide basic technical information like that.

I am using precision 7540, with Intel UHD 630 graphic card. My question is not about the docking station. I want to know with the description that I mentioned above why the direct HDMI cable from my external monitor to my precision 7540 is not working?! My external display is LG 27UL550

Hello,

Thanks for your reply but this has nothing to do with the cable. I use the same hdmi cable and I add hdmi  to usbc  extension as I explained in my first text. In this case the external monitor works.

It sounds to me that the video exit to external monitor from usbc port works but not from hdmi port or dp port. Either Windows doesn't recognise them or hdmi and dp  ports have hw malfunction

Hello,

After contacting Dell support the technician came and replaced the graphic card, but unfortunately, the issue is still there. The external monitor doesn't receive any signal when HDMI or DP is connected directly to my laptop.

If the same cable is connected through a convertor to USB-C port (instead of HDMI or DP port) the external monitor works. any other hint?

Thanks

I have the same issue. Dell Inspiron 7386. Works with laptop usb-c port using HDMI to usb-c adapter, but not with HDMI port on laptop. When I had the same problem last year I was able to fix it as follows:

  • Using cmd, SFC /scannow found 2 corrupt files: fdeploy.dll and gptext.dll
  • Repaired: cmd, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (other dism options: /checkhealth  /scanhealth)

This time SFC /scannow does not find any errors and the other options complete without changing anything.
