Precision 7510 won't boot - possible power supply issue

Hello,

When I press power button:

  • computer attempts to boot (light in middle of power button comes on, etc)
    • the battery LED (right-most LED on front of body facing user) blinks twice yellow, then four times white
  • after six cycles of the same 2xWhite, 4xYellow sequence
    • the fan spins briefly
    • the middle LED blinks white one time
    • then whole computer shuts down. Nothing ever appears on screen.

I've replicated the problem:

- with two different batteries (one is less than a month old)

- with and without docking station

- with and without charging cord

The warranty just ran-out and Dell wouldn't renew due to age of computer. I'm writing the last chapter of my thesis and this is pretty much the worst time this could happen. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

W

Cheers to Dell staff for relaying via PM that fee-based support is available for out-of-warranty system:

Given PM content received and lack of reply to this thread, I infer Dell staff do not post to threads where the system in question is out of warranty.

However, I was able to get it sorted on my own

I removed the two rear/bottom covers. Removed battery. Removed both RAM modules, cleaned, and re-seated. Replaced battery. Pressed power button.  Same error sequence.

I repeated process but removed RAM module from port B. Replaced battery. Pressed Power. And voila...it booted.

Repeated process moving working module from port A to the B port. Also successful.

Repeated via installing the module originally removed from port B into Port A.  Also successful. So still have 32 GB of working RAM.

Note: on each test-boot iteration, I was notified during the check that system RAM config had changed. I simply selected F2 to see the diagnostic and confirmed the proper amount of RAM was detected. Then exit and boot sequence automatically re-started.

A good visual (but non-English audio), see 3:30 - 5:40 of the following:

Luckily for me, a tense, but easy and inexpensive fix.

Found this:

Apparently, the battery light blinking isn't necessarily a power issue.  Given the pattern, it appears to be memory-related:

Will post more as I find it, but still happy for assistance.

Cheers

Cheers to Dell staff for the PMs.  I have attempted several replies, but am not sure they're getting out. Can you please check my permissions and/or provide alternate means of contact?
