Precision 5530 reporting no/low power on boot

As I turn on my laptop, I am occasionally warned that there is no charge left in the battery and that the system is going to hibernte. It does so, even as I plug in power. This just happened again.

Once fully hibernated, I hit the keyboard, the screens snaps back open and I am able to login. It now shows that I have 37% power left in the battery. This began to happen over the last 90 days.

Any suggestions as to the source of the problem? Is this able to be tested somehow? Unfortunately, Dell Diagnostics aren't supported under Linux.

These are the system details:

You may want to run a powercfg /batteryreport at a command prompt with admin privilege, as there's a good chance the battery is on its way out.  It may report excellent health, but not have much capacity left.

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter (F2 at powerup to check), or does it show unknown?  And how old is the battery?

I checked as you requested and the system does indeed recognize that the 130 watt charger is connected, and states that the battery is in good condition.

Just to reiterate so that there is no confusion, the error only occurs when I boot on battery, and it doesn't happen all the time. It indicates that there is 0% charge left. Plugging in the charger and re-starting eliminates the situation. Starting with the laptop plugged in has never presented this problem.

And I also verified that this is indeed the original 97 WHr battery. It shipped on September 1, 2018. No complaints here at all!

PowerCFG is a Windows command. But I did a search on running a similar command on Ubuntu, and there is a utility called "Power Statistics" that may essentially do the same thing.

It showed me that the "Energy when full" as at 50.8 Wh, whereas "Energy (design)" is 97.0 Wh. The "Time to empty" is all over the place, from 3 - 11 hours. It's updating roughly every 10 seconds.

I can live with this battery, and with some other issues for a bit longer. There are no parts really available for this long in the tooth laptop, so I am going to work it until it is no longer functional, and then will replace the system.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
