[Precision 3580] BSOD, automatic restart after about 1hr

Hi,

since today I'm having a problem with a Precision 3580.

I don't know what happend, nothing has been changed by me...

Problem is that:

After about 1hr running it's facing a BSOD and auto reboots.

With WinDbg I opend the dump file. It says that:

CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (ef)

A critical system process died

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.ExceptionCode

Value: cd511080

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.ImageName

Value: SDSSnapshotProcess.dll

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.ImageOffset

Value: 279aac

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.ImageSize

Value: 3c4000

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.ImageTimestamp

Value: 645382f9

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.Process

Value: DellSupportAss

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.Symbol

Value: SDSSnapshotProcess.dll!

Key  : CriticalProcessDied.WERReportId

Value: 4d998b33-d4ab-405b-8413-94102c8ab9ea

I already tried to disable "System repair" in Dell SupportAssist but it didn't help.

Any Idea what to do and how to solve? Uninstall all Dell software?

Greetings!

Hi,

The issue you're encountering seems to be related to the SDSSnapshotProcess.dll component, which is part of Dell SupportAssist. The error CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (ef) typically indicates that a critical process required for system operation has unexpectedly terminated. Here's a step-by-step guide to address the issue:

1. Update Dell SupportAssist

Sometimes, bugs in older versions of SupportAssist can cause such issues. Try updating SupportAssist to the latest version:

2. Disable Specific Features in Dell SupportAssist

Disabling specific components within SupportAssist that might trigger the issue can help:

  1. Open Dell SupportAssist.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Automatic Scans and Optimizations.
  3. Disable features like System Repair and Performance Optimization.

3. Run Diagnostics

Dell provides in-built diagnostics to identify hardware issues:

  1. Restart your system and press F12 when the Dell logo appears.
  2. Select Diagnostics from the boot menu.
  3. Allow the process to complete and check for any hardware errors.

4. Uninstall Dell SupportAssist (if needed)

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider uninstalling SupportAssist:

  1. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Find Dell SupportAssist and uninstall it.
  3. Restart your system and monitor for stability.

If the problem persists even after uninstalling SupportAssist, it may not be the root cause.

5. Check for System Updates

Ensure your operating system and drivers are up-to-date:

  1. Visit Dell Support and enter your service tag.
  2. Download and install the latest BIOS, chipset drivers, and other updates.

6. Investigate Further with WinDbg

The error points to the SDSSnapshotProcess.dll, but if uninstalling SupportAssist does not resolve the issue, there might be other dependencies or conflicts. Use WinDbg to analyze the minidump files further for additional clues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worthwhile to reach out to Dell Technical Support for further assistance.

Best regards! Let me know how it goes.

Hey, thanks for your detailed reply. What I already tried is

1.

2.

5. (using Dell CommandUpdate)

but nothing solved it.

Now I uninstalled Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be ok. No crashed yet (some hours already running).

About 6., maybe there is an other issue. But for now uninstalling seems to solved the problem and I don't really need SupportAssist, so just uninstalling is ok for me.

Now I hope that the BSOD is not coming back ;-)

Thanks and greeting!
