fn Home / End to fn Left / Right

Is there anyway to change the settings on my Precision 5550 so that I can have the home and end keys moved to fn-left and fn-right (as opposed to fn-F11 and fn-F12)

The arrow keys as home/ end just work in BIOS 1.11.0. You don't need to change any settings.

I just updated to BIOS 1.12.0. Keys are working now! Thank you Dell for listening!

@APersonWithALaptop  There have been many, many posts about this since Dell started rolling out systems with this keyboard layout change.  The answer is if this is how the system is behaving even under the latest BIOS release, then no you can't do anything about it, but there's also some hope.  The Fn key itself is only seen by system firmware.  When you press a key combination that involves the Fn key, the OS only sees the single resulting key, like "Home".  It does not independently see "Fn+F11", for example, since the system firmware converts that combination to the appropriate single key.  This means that the Fn key combinations can't be customized, because they are handled by firmware and Dell does not provide a mechanism for customizing firmware-level key combinations.  However, after years of complaints about this keyboard layout design primarily focused around the XPS 13, probably because it's such a popular system and because it received this change years ago, Dell released a BIOS update for the latest XPS 13 9310 that allows Home/End to be activated both via its normal key combination and by Fn+Left/Right.  To date, they have not backported this BIOS update to previous XPS 13 generations, though.  But the Precision 5500 is a current-generation model, so if you haven't already, make sure you're running the latest BIOS, because if not, this capability may have been added in a newer BIOS release.  But if it still doesn't work, your only option would be to map Home/End to some other key combination that doesn't involve Fn.  You can use an application like Autohotkey for that, but of course depending on the key combination you choose, you might create a collision with some other function, possibly one that only exists in certain applications.

It looks like you can not do that on the Dell Precision 5550, even in the BIOS.

Thanks for your help.

Definitely not solved. The latest BIOS doesn't include the change for Fn+Arrow keys.

Dell please, make this change for Precision 5550! Workarounds like autokeys are bad! It is so natural to have "home" and "end" bind to Fn+Left and Fn+Right!!!

Dell Precision 5550 System BIOS has been updated!

Version 1.11.0 released on the 7 Dec 2021 has "Added the support for Home and End functions on the left and right keys respectively on the keyboard"

But I can't find this in the BIOS. Did I just miss it? Is it called something strange?
